We’re still not quite done previewing this batch of content from one of the three upcoming compendiums planned, this one focused on not just the classic four elements, but the powers of the natural world and the planes surrounding it. Called The Elements and Beyond, it will contain not just dozens of new spells, but spellcaster specialization feats, new subclasses, and even races like the Pixie!

This Friday I've got some sizzlers for y'all. Both of the new spells in this pdf appear on the list of Pyromancy Spells in the upcoming compendium. Pyromancer is one of the available spellcaster specialization feats coming in The Elements and Beyond, which each have their own list of 40-50 spells (including original and new homebrew spells) that count for the feat's special abilities, which activate upon casting a spell from their list. The Pyromancer feat, as opposed to the other spellcasting specialization feats, focuses simply on larger bursts of flame for more damage or a wider area. These specialization feats are intended to be as meaningful for spellcaster PCs who are willing to specialize as feats like Great Weapon Master, Dual Wielder, or Sharpshooter can be for martial characters. The second spell, blood to flame, will also appear alongside other Blood spells and the Blood Mage feat in the compendium of forbidden magic, The Impermissicon.

Fist of Flame is intended to be a simple-to-understand single-target damage spell, fitting into the lineage of blightharmdisintegrate, and finger of death. As an eighth-level spell, fist of flame gets to pack some debuffing power with its damage punch. It's a perfect tool not just for blasting dangerous single enemies, but also for stripping villains of their legendary saving throws by threatening them with dangerous conditions even as you damage them. Plus, it's just very satisfying to land.

And you've heard of flesh to stone, but have you heard of this? Blood to Flame is both a new Pyromancy spell and a new Blood spell (what a fun venn-diagram!) you can use to torture your enemies as they die a gruesome death. This spell is also wonderful for locking down a single target, although it doesn't work as well against legendary saving throws as fist of flame. The spectre of permanent transmutation makes the spell extra intimidating, and it serves very well for DMs as a villain-defining spell, especially when used on beloved NPCs so you can milk those dramatic final moments. Be careful not to use it on lower-level PCs unless you're ready to resurrect (or mourn) a pile of ashes!

We've also got some damage variants, especially many for fist of flame. Many of these damage variants appear on spell lists in The Elements and Beyond. Geode gauntlet is a geomancy spell; lancing icicle is a hydromancy spell, and fulmination is an aeromancy spell. In fact, phantom blade barrage is a gladimancy spell (gladimancy is a specialization for sword magic, and it also gets a feat and spell list in the compendium). All of these spell lists will appear in the compendium together along with the new spells on them and their corresponding feats.
