Today's preview from Legends of Prestige & Prowess is for our wizard fans, who have long waited for another wizard subclass to go along with the myriad spells that D&D Unleashed has given them. As such, we introduce you to the School of the Ancients! This subclass, like many others in the same compendium, is intended as a more-generic subclass for PCs that don't necessarily subscribe to any of the flavor of more specialized subclasses.

The Ancients Wizard draws thematic inspiration from a variety of sources, including the Dresden Files, the King Arthur mythos, Elden Ring, and A Wizard of Earthsea. These wizards utilize the magic of true names to control and subdue magical creatures, see the true nature of reality, age slowly, and seek out the source of magic itself.

Wizards of the School of the Ancients specialize in the Arcana skill, using it to recall the true names of magical creatures. Their 6th-level feature can grant them expertise in Arcana, and using their 14th-level feature, they can gain advantage on Arcana checks as well. These wizards can also use their 2nd-level feature to check the creature type of their enemies, so they can know whether to use their 6th-level feature or not.

Whether you're seeking to make a wizard like Harry Dresden, Merlin, Ged, or the Primeval Sorcerers of Elden Ring, this homebrew wizard subclass is for you!
